Have you ever gone to a coffee shop and the cashier told you that someone else had paid for your coffee? It happened to me only once but I knew what had happened and what to do. Somebody was “paying it forward” and it was up to me to continue the chain. I paid for the person behind me.

恩送りとは・・・doing something kind to a stranger after another stranger did something nice to you. You may have noticed that people in America already tend to be considerate to strangers like opening a door, saying ‘bless you’ or letting others go first. However, even here we tend to forget about helping others, so this phrase has caught on. It helps us remember to think about others, because you never know who might benefit from your kindness.
知らない人が自分に何か親切な事をしてくれた後に、自分も知らない人に何か親切な事をしてあげる事です。もうすでに気づいてるかもしれませんが、アメリカ人は他人に対してドアを開けてあげるとか‘bless you’と言ってあげるとか、他の人を先に行かせてあげるなど配慮する傾向があります。しかし私たちは他人に対して助けてあげる事を忘れがちになってしまうので、この言葉が広く受け入れられています。あなたの親切で誰が恩恵を受けるのか分からないので、この言葉が他人への配慮を気づかせてくれます。
