June is the month of thank-you letters and small presents to your child’s teachers or your own ESL tutors before the summer vacation. Here are some tips and English hints to give you an idea of what to do and say.
６月は、夏休みに入る前にお子さんの担任の先生達やESLの家庭教師にお礼の手紙とちょっとしたプレゼントを贈る月です。 何をして、どう言えばいいのかのアイデアや英語のヒントをこちらにまとめました。
You can give presents to just a main teacher or also to other teachers/staff involved in your child’s education. I usually give a larger gift to the main teacher(s), and smaller gifts to other teachers/staff, about $3-5 each. You can give anything up to about $20. Gift cards are popular, but any present or even homemade items are fine. For middle school or high school, it’s not as necessary to give a present, but you can give chocolate or something similar if your child wants, especially for a favorite teacher.
プレゼントは子どもの担任だけでもいいですし、お世話になった他の先生やスタッフに贈ってもいいです。私は、担任の先生にはちゃんとしたギフトを、他の先生やスタッフには$3-5ぐらいのちょっとした物を渡しています。＄２０ぐらいまでの品を送ればいいでしょう。ギフトカードが人気ですが、何でも大丈夫です。手作りの物でも良いですよ。Middle school やHigh schoolではプレゼントは必要ありません。しかし、お子さんがどうしても好きな先生にプレゼントしたいようなら、チョコレートや何かちょっとした物を贈りましょう。
A simple message is fine: Thank you for all you did this year. I/Takuya/We enjoyed your class and learned a lot. Have a great summer! Take care, Mieko
Of course, your child can write a message, too, similar to above. If the teacher is retiring or leaving, or if your family will move back to Japan, you can say at the end: Take care and enjoy retirement! OR We will miss you. Take care! OR Thank you again for everything and please take care! Or you can mix any of these sentences.
メッセージはシンプルで大丈夫です：この１年間、お世話になりました。私/拓也/私たちは先生の授業を楽しめましたし、たくさんの事を学びました。どうか素敵な夏をお過ごし下さい！ お元気で。美絵子
もちろん、お子さんが上記に似たようなメッセージを書いてもいいです。もし、先生が退職したり学校を離れてしまう場合、もしくはあなた方が日本へ帰国する場合は、文章の最後にこう付け加えましょう：お元気で。そして引退後の生活を満喫してください。もしくは お会いできなくなるので寂しいです。お元気で！ 又は 本当にいろいろとお世話になりました。どうぞお元気で！ あるいは、これらのメッセージをミックスしてもいいですね。
