Here is something that you probably have been thinking that you want for your house or apartment. Many homes in America have central heating and cooling, with the air coming through registers in the floor or on the wall. Sometimes the register is right below a window or in a strange spot or just where you want to put a desk. Here is a cheap solution that will help control the direction of the air.

What you need is an Air Deflector (also called Heat and Air Deflector, Vent Deflector or Register Deflector). There are magnet types or screw types. They are usually clear plastic so not bad to look at, and adjustable so easy to size. You can use them on the wall or on the floor.
あなたの必要な物はエアーディフレクターです。（ヒート アンド エアーディフレクター、ベントディフレクター、もしくはレジスターディフレクターとも呼ばれています。）マグネットタイプとネジで止めるタイプがあります。ほとんどが透明なプラスチックなので、見た目も悪くなく、通風口のサイズに簡単に合わせられます。壁にも床にも使えます。
Also, if you have a room that you are not using and would like to stop the flow of air in that room to save energy, you can buy Magnetic Vent Covers that stop the flow of the vent return. (The floor registers can usually be closed with a lever, but you can use the magnetic cover to be sure.

You can buy both items at most any hardware store, including Home Depot and Lowes, at about $5 each. I use magnet deflectors on my floor registers on the first floor to keep air from going up to the second floor too quickly, and magnetic covers on the intake vent in my son’s room because for some reason, cold air comes out of it during the winter.

Hint: I also buy vent filters and put them in my floor registers, between the grill and the close panels, to keep clean air coming in, and keep any dust or bugs out.
