There are many, many papers that are sent home the first week of school. Some are easy to understand, some are not. Some confusing ones are about concussions, free-or-reduced lunches, photograph release permission, and background check for volunteers. Here are simple explanations for each one.

学校が始まりましたね！カリキュラムナイトでは２分ぐらい子供の担任の先生と挨拶する機会があると思います。
You can say, “Hi, we’re Sayuri’s parents. (I’m Sayuri’s mom.) Nice to meet you! Sayuri is excited about this year. She’s happy to be in your class. Thank you for teaching her this year!”
そんな時は、“こんにちは、さゆりの両親です。（さゆりの母です）はじめまして！ さゆりはこの１年を楽しみにしています。先生のクラスになれて喜んでいます。この１年、どうぞよろしくお願いします！”

However, back-to-school shopping starts in June or July, not long after school ends. It seems that the school supply list that families need to prepare gets longer and longer every year.
